Dorothy Herron started her art career as an oil painter studying under the direction of Jean Johnson at Carnegie Institute in Pittsburgh. After moving to South Carolina in 1993, Dorothy began working predominately in water colors. She felt that water colors enabled her to achieve a freedom of expression and lightness that best captures the look of the Low Country.” I like to sit and study my subject until I develop a very personal feeling about the view or still life. I try never to start a painting until I can visualize it in my head.”
Dorothy is a long time participant in The Art in the Park events in Myrtle Beach, demonstrating her craft and encouraging newcomers to enjoy art. Dorothy is a member of the Water Color Society of South Carolina, the Waccamaw Art and Craft Guild and a Charter member of the Back Porch Painters.
